Unlike woven fabrics, which are made by interlacing warp and weft yarns, plain knit fabrics are created by interlooping yarns using needles — either circular or flat-bed machines. This construction gives knits their signature elasticity, softness, and comfort.

There are two main types:

Weft knits (jersey, rib, interlock) – known for flexibility and drape
Warp knits (tricot, raschel) – more stable and structured
